Thailand is a major producer of coconuts, and the Amphawa region in Samut Songkhram Province is known as the home of Thailand’s best-quality coconuts. So, when visiting the Amphawa Floating Market, don’t miss out on the cheap and delicious coconuts!
Located downstream of the Mae Klong River, Amphawa benefits from fertile alluvial soil, making it an ideal place for coconut plantations. Most of the coconuts grown here are from dwarf coconut trees, which produce exceptionally tasty coconuts. These fresh coconuts are sold locally and exported worldwide.
The weather is too hot! Before exploring the floating market, cool off with some coconut water. Here, green coconuts cost only 13-20 THB per piece—such a bargain! In Bangkok’s tourist areas, a single coconut starts at 40 THB, but here, you can get two for that price. If you want to enjoy the coconut juice, the vendor will cut it open and insert a straw. The moment you take a sip, a refreshing coolness flows down your throat, bringing relief from the heat—so satisfying! Moreover, Amphawa’s coconut water has a delicate fragrance and a mildly sweet taste, making it even more enjoyable.
After quenching your thirst with coconut water, if you want to eat the flesh, the vendor will also provide a spoon so you can scoop out the delicious coconut meat. Drinking the juice and eating the flesh together makes it an incredible deal!
Another option is fire-roasted coconuts, which cost 20-30 THB each. The roasting process enhances the natural sweetness and aroma of the coconut water, making it even more flavorful. However, it is not as fresh as the green coconuts that are cut open on the spot.
Amphawa’s coconut farmers make full use of coconuts, turning them into various essential products, such as health supplements and decorative lamps. Don’t forget to check them out when visiting the floating market!
