Amphawa Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำอัมพวา), located at the confluence of the Maeklong River and the sea, is famous for one of its local specialties, a salted fish called Pla Tuu (ปลาทู), which is very popular in Thailand.
Walking along the banks of the Amphawa River or the market stalls, it's easy to spot "Pla Tuu" fish. Some are placed on bamboo trays, with two fish costing around 35 baht each, which is very cheap!
Pla Tuu fish can be prepared in various ways, mainly deep-fried or steamed, with a unique flavor.
Across from the stone bridge at the Amphawa Floating Market, on the left side near the bridge pier, there is a buffet restaurant where you can try "Pla Tuu" fish, such as those soaked in sauce with a salty and slightly spicy flavor; deep-fried Pla Tuu; and clear broth Pla Tuu.
At this buffet, you can choose a piece of Pla Tuu fish in various flavors, along with one meat dish and a bowl of rice, all for 45-50 baht. You can also add drinks or bottled water, though be prepared since there is no air conditioning, and it can get quite hot here.
Looking at this deep-fried Pla Tuu fish, it may seem ordinary, but once you taste it, it’s different. The fish skin and bones are fried crispy, and when you cut open the fish, the flesh is tender and salty, delicious and truly pairs well with rice. It doesn’t take long to finish.
If you're visiting Amphawa Floating Market, you must try the "Pla Tuu" fish. It's a delicacy that you can't find in Taiwan!
